Calls from Bill Collectors

Meet with our attorneys in Lancaster and Worthington to learn how you can stop creditor collection calls and debt collector harassment.

calls-from-collectors
Dealing with debt is stressful enough, but when creditors and bill collectors harass you with hostile calls and letters, it can quickly turn into a nightmare. Do you receive collection calls at work? Are they mistakenly calling you about a debt you don’t owe? Are they still calling after repeated requests to cease and desist? You have rights and you CAN stop creditor actions, get relief from debt, and make a fresh start with the help of our experienced debt attorney in central Ohio.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act offers you protection from harassing calls, letters, texts, or emails. Examples of abusive collection practices include:

  • Profane language
  • Threats of physical harm
  • Claiming your debt is a crime
  • Threats to expose your debt to your employer or family
  • Calls early in the morning or late at night
  • Excessive and repetitive attempts to contact you
  • Lying or misrepresenting themselves as a scare tactic
  • And more

Collectors are also required to give you particular information concerning the debt, such as the creditor details and debt amount. Always request a validation letter from anyone who calls. They must send you this document by mail within five days of initial contact and then discontinue collections for 30 days, during which time you can dispute the debt if it was assigned in error.

Fake or scam debt collectors often use your lack of financial knowledge to their benefit; seeking payment for nonexistent debts, collecting on debts after the statute of limitations has passed, and refusing to comply with your legal rights. Don’t be misled by companies advertising debt-free solutions to your creditor problems. Your debt has not gone away just because the phone calls stop and many of these companies will charge hefty fees for services that do very little.

Attorney Wendi Henderhan and her team work with their clients to help them reach their best debt solution. All clients are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. Henderhan Law wants help establish a plan to free you from debt in the best way possible, whether that be a voluntary payment plan, Chapter 13 or Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
